Project: Soho Bookstore
Location: New York, NY
Housing Works is a non-profit based in New York City, which provides assistance to those affected by HIV and AIDS. A significant part of revenue comes from their many thrift shop locations throughout the city, as well as the Housing Works Bookstore Cafe, located in Soho. The large space serves as a bookstore during the day and occasional performance space at night, but a redesign was desired to make better use of such a desirable venue.
The design process involved using sustainable materials derived from a specific plant/tree (I was assigned Maple Plywood). Taking inspiration from the geometry of the maple leaf, I created a dramatic and versatile space that allowed for greater flexibility as well as dramatic interior aesthetics.
